Anchor Bar

Anchor Bar brings East Coast Wings to the Venetian

Last year, I read an article on VegasChatter about Anchor Bar at the Venetian. Anyone who knows me, knows I love wings. I was raised in NY; good wings were common. Especially the kind one would find at a non-franchise place. My favorite haunt for good hot wings was Boardwalk Bagels. One of the things I missed the most when I left NY (besides NY during Christmas) were those wings. Outside of New York, it was hard for me to find good hot wings. I tried a lot of places in California, a lot of places in Arizona and each was just OK. Nothing special. So when I read that article in June, written by a fellow former east coaster, EastCoastGambler (aka EdgeVegas) to be exact. I knew I could trust him. It was on my trip last month when I stopped in at Anchor Bar.

It was almost 10 pm when I finally got there after an event-filled day of taking pictures for the Very Vegas Christmas series. I looked at the menu and ordered a Medium Single. I guarded my expectations, prepared just in case they weren’t as good as I read. I looked around at the TV’s, and one had KTNV on, and there was a promo with our biker buddy Greg Bennett. That guy is going to be on Good Morning America one day. Just a few moments later, and my wings were ready.

The wings were delicious and hot. I bit in and couldn’t feel my face for the first few seconds (I must’ve been a light weight, cause it’s been way too long). By the second wing, I was back in my game. The side dip I ordered was their specialty bleu cheese dressing, as it should be. The meat was juicy, took about 3 to 4 bites to finish each wing. The wings didn’t seem like they were drowning in goop, at all. I’ve been to some other places where I’m spending more time cleaning my fingers than I am enjoying the meal. Anchor Bar does it right. The environment was good, the staff is friendly and chatty. But most importantly, the wings were even better than the ones I missed so much back in NY. Good price point, I think my meal came out to like $17.00 bucks, and I left a tip on top of that.

Buffalo Wings were invented at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo NY in 1964. I’m pleased to confirm that Anchor Bar brought that same iconic taste experience to Las Vegas. I highly recommend it!

UPDATE 2/19/16: We’ve learned that Anchor Bar is closing up shop at Grand Cancal Shoppes effective today, February 19th, 2016. They say they are looking for a new location.

  1. Hi Michael, what did your order entail for $17?? Just wings, I hope you got at least 12…..

  2. I’m from Brooklyn NY born and bread New Yawker ha. I had Anchor Bar in July. I’m rather corny as I don’t like to get my hands dirty so only only got boneless but it was yummy. No wow factor but eat here again. I think Pluck You on 9th Ave in hells kitchen had the best wings.
