Coming to Venetian: Puppet Up! Uncensored

Puppet Up! Uncensored a new muppet…err..puppet show created by a division of the Jim Henson company is coming to the Venetian this Spring.

Created by Henson Alternative, and directed/hosted by Patrick Bristow (whom I initially recognised as the Wig Master on Seinfeld), Puppet Up! Uncensored is an improv puppet show. The Muppeteers err..damn it, puppeteers take suggestions from the audience to include in their pieces. While some compare it to Avenue Q, the only similarity is: there are puppets. With improv taking the lead of this puppet (there we go) group, you are guaranteed a different show every night.

Here’s an example of their work:

Puppet Up! Uncensored as described on their website:

An outrageous and very spontaneous show, featuring over 60 original Henson puppets – a motley group of characters brought to life by a cast of six world-class puppeteers of The Jim Henson Company in a night of off the cuff comedy. Each show is a unique experience due to its improvisational nature, showcasing the wit, technique, and that trademark Henson dryness and sly anarchy.

Audience members can look at the show two ways, the video screen which only shows the puppets, or look to the stage itself to see the both the puppets and puppeteers working their magic. This definitely isn’t Avenue Q. As distracted as I have been by watching Puppet Up! videos on Youtube today, there is no doubt in my mind that this is something I’m going to see soon.
