Cirque Du Sexy: A Zumanity Review

New York, New York’s Cirque du Soleil offering, Zumanity, is equal parts sexy, risque, daring and funny. With tickets starting at under $100, it’s also one of the more economically friendly Cirque experiences on the Strip. Strap on your strap-on, you’re in for a good time.

Before even considering this as your evening plans, be warned it isn’t for the easily offended, prude or anyone under the age of 18. Nudity, foul language and sexually suggestive themes, visuals, and sounds (though there isn’t much suggestive about it—it’s borderline pornographic) are a mainstay of this R-rated spectacle. This is not The Beatle’s LOVE!

A Vegas trip’s staples generally include dropping a paycheck on the tables, filling a liver with liquor, and, of course, getting an eye full of a fine set of mammaries. Luckily, Zumanity delivers and provides plenty of eye candy for the ladies as well. Every man, woman, man-woman and man-beast is scantily-clad with bondage-inspired outfits, see through garments, tear-off tuxedos and just plain birthday suits (they never go as far as to show what’s happening downstairs). It lives up to the Cirque brand of quirky, mesmerizing and flat-out weird.

Like most Cirque shows, there’s no storyline to follow, but instead 90 minutes of cliched sex-fueled fantasy vignettes. If anything came to mind when you read that, chances are they cover it. Chains and whips, role-playing, bendy twins and sexy dreams are all included. Just sit back, listen to the fantastic music (thanks to a live band that hangs from a platform above the stage) and try not to look too interested in front of your significant other.

The theater is smaller than typical Vegas Cirque shows, but the intimate setting plays well with the theme. Even with the smaller real estate, the performers only require a small bit of it for the sensual stunts. Most consist of flying through the air by either hanging on to something, being wrapped up in something, or being picked up and thrown around. The vertical space is utilized well, making sure there isn’t a bad seat in the house. The rest of the show is rounded out with contortion-like displays and mini comedy segments that break up the sexual tension. The pacing worked well.

Overall, the show is a great option for couples on a budget with an open night. The thrills aren’t mind-boggling but manage to keep you engaged the entire time, whether through the spectacle or the nudity. The pacing swings from sexy to funny, death-defying to artistic, but stays completely entertaining throughout. The best advice I can provide is only to go with that special someone or be prepared for some real awkward drinks later. Oh, and don’t sit in the front—unless you like being a part of a soft-core orgy. They really love some audience participation.

Shows are Tuesday – Saturday at 7 pm and 9:30 pm.

  1. only seen one show and thats mj @ mandalay bay and that was AMAZINNGGG. im scared to see another one and not like it.

  2. Was there a guest host at your performance? I saw this quite a few years ago and hear part of the show has been updated.

    1. There was only one main host, but some reoccurring characters throughout. She/He was a great host though! The improv skills were strong with this group of performers.
