Look Up! The Palazzo Shines Through St. Regis

Welcome to another round of “Hidden Vegas”, the VegasBright series that teases your brain with questions like “How did I miss that?”

The night time view of the Vegas skyline is indeed magical. Sure, many magicians perform on evenings at various venues on the strip, but that’s not what I’m talking about. This particular illusion costs you absolutely nothing, plays nightly, and is courtesy of the Sands Corporation.

Head on over to the Palazzo and Venetian area and be sure to look for the St. Regis. Mentioned here on Vegas Bright about three weeks ago as part of another article, we’ll quote our very own sammasseur regarding St. Regis’ history:

…the unfinished structure, sitting between Venetian and Palazzo resorts, was once planned to be a condominium tower. An economic collapse and financial trouble for Sands Corporation froze the $600 million project in 2008. Thus, it joined a list of rusting eyesores that suddenly littered the Strip and surrounding areas. Sands Corporation forked over a million dollars for a custom tarp, meant to cleverly disguise the skeleton while the powers-that-be decided what to do with it (the market for Strip residences isn’t what it was when the first blueprints for St. Regis were being drawn).

One of the effects of the tarp is its transparency factor; it is more noticeable at night. On a recent walk on the strip as I was waiting to cross Las Vegas Blvd, I looked up and had to blink twice:

The Palazzo shines through the St.Regis at night. On your next visit be sure to catch the strip’s greatest illusionist, the St. Regis Cloak of Invisibility, it’s been there for four years apparently!
