Off-Strip Stay: La Quinta Inn South

It was our last day in Vegas, well no, our last “scheduled ” day was the day prior. This day started like any other when leaving Vegas. We woke up, grabbed our bags and cabbed to the airport. We took the tram, did the security shuffle, found some food, sat at the gate. Tired, perturbed, and feeling a tinge of sadness: this is what leaving Las Vegas is like. My wife and I were already feeling the P.V.B’s (Post-Vegas Blues) because our beautiful Vegas honeymoon was officially coming to a close. Suddenly every cell phone started ringing at our gate. Our flight got cancelled. We grabbed our bags and walked, trammed, and walked some more all the way back to the ticket counter.

The customer service rep explained that the airline was booked solid. There were no available seats on any flights leaving Vegas–not even on their sister airline. It would be the next day until we could fly out. As the customer service rep was looking for a place for us, my wife and I were secretly hoping that we’d get sent to a nice place on the strip. So what did they do? They put us in La Quinta Inn South. Not the strip, but at least we had a place to sleep that night. A shuttle van took us to our one-day/one-night digs. I figured “If anything, I can get an article out of this, better take some pictures.” So now, the tour starting with the bedroom.

The fridge is empty, fill it with whatever you want. That’s always a plus in my book. The microwave is quite small. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows weren’t as much to my liking as the ones at the Flamingo. The closet (not pictured) has lots of hangers, an ironing board, iron and suitcase rack. There was also an armchair & ottoman.

Now, let’s go to the bathroom together! (not literally)

Pet Peeve: The bathroom is not a place where one should make anything for consumption, at all, ever.

The bathroom is pretty much your standard hotel bathroom. Other amenities of La Quinta include free breakfast, free wi-fi, and a free copy of the newspaper. Also, a free shuttle takes you to and from the Strip (Mandalay Bay) and the airport. There’s also a pool and a fitness center.

After chilling in the room for an hour planning the rest of our day, we headed out to the shuttle, and I saw this along the way:

Well, kudos to them for their TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, five years straight.

Though it wasn’t a resort and casino on the strip, La Quinta South was a comfortable and pleasant stay. I admit we didn’t stay long as we headed back out to the excitement of the strip. We only came back to the room to sleep at the end of the day. With an extra day in Vegas, there was no way we’d spend our Honeymoon Bonus Day watching TV! However, I would recommend La Quinta Inn South as an alternative place to stay on your Vegas trip if you want to be away from the excitement of the strip, yet not too far away.
