Getting to Know: New Contributing Writer, Bob Z

“Getting to Know” is our series where we introduce new writers, contributors and familiar plus noteworthy Vegas residents to Vegas Bright. Today we introduce new contributing writer BOB Z. A Vegas Chatter fan and commenter, BOB is happy to write here. As I type this (8/21 at 12:31 am), Bob is getting ready to head out to Las Vegas for a nine day (yes, NINE-day trip!). We look forward to his future words and works. For now we turn things over to BOB Z.

Vegas Resident or Visitor:
Frequent visitor

Hobbies/Interests:
Travel is my favorite hobby. I really enjoy western Europe with Amsterdam being my favorite small European city and London my favorite large city. I’m a big cruiser and usually take 3 or 4 cruises a year. And of course, Las Vegas – 2 to 3 times a year.

Do we know you from somewhere?
Nope, other than being an occasional commenter on Vegas Chatter

What kind of topics would you write about?
Dining and Hotels

Gamble much?
Every day that I’m in Vegas, but I’m a slot player and not a big one at that.

Club much?
Nope, not my thing

See shows much?
I never used to go to shows, but now I try to see one on each visit

Wine and Dine much?
Wine, no. Dine, yes! I like trying new places and revisiting old favorites

Spa much?
Never have – I just don’t get the appeal

Favorite Hotel/Casino:
Strip Casino Hotel: Aria
Strip non-gaming Hotel: Mandarin Oriental
Downtown Casino Hotel: Downtown Grand

Favorite dining spot:
Julian Serrano at Aria: straight up delicious tapas!

Favorite eating spot (we feel there’s a difference between eating and dining)?
Market Street Cafe at The Cal for the Loco Moco. It’s a revelation.

Favorite drinking spot?
I don’t drink – but I love Vegas! How’s that for weird?

Favorite off-the-strip spot?
Premium Outlets North

Favorite Downtown spot?
Downtown Grand. It’s fun to gamble there and a little less skeevy than Fremont – although all of Fremont is a close second

Favorite Club?
I don’t have one as I’ve never been to one.

Favorite activities?
Touring through all of the casinos I can on each visit, to see what is new and exciting. Vegas changes at such a fast clip that there is always something new to see.

Things in Vegas you WON’T do again:
Go to the SLS: what a bore and a disappointment!

Things in Vegas you WOULD do again:
Red Rock, Hoover Dam and the Container Park

Favorite Vegas memory:
Winning $1600 on my third pull at a $1 slot machine at Palazzo

Worst Vegas memory:
Seeing the buskers that are willing to get kicked in the man-parts for $20. So disturbing.

That thing you mean to do in Vegas but never get around to?
The Neon Museum. I promise myself every time to get there…and I don’t

That thing you have to do every time (your Vegas traditions)?
Again, the Loco Moco at the Cal

Thoughts or comments you’d like to share with our readers:
