Bed Bugs Live the Suite Life at Cosmopolitan Las Vegas

Two weeks ago, Vegas Hotel News reported that fashion and beauty vlogger Mia Stammer shared a tweet about bed bugs at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas.

What I found most interesting is this isn’t exactly the first time that the Cosmopolitan played host to these creeping, bloodthirsty critters. Since as far back as 2012, hotel guests have reported numerous bed bug bites as they slept. A dedicated page on Bed Bug Registry shows complaints going far back as 2012 as well. With Mia’s most recent bed bug incident on August 3rd, one does have to wonder how long those bed bugs have been around, and why they still survive. The answer is simple, a bed bug can survive one year without a blood meal. The more pressing question I have: Do they prefer Terrace Studios or Wrap-Around Suites? If I were a bed bug, I’d want a wrap-around suite.

Mia’s story, explained by VHN went on that Cosmopolitan performed a “Bed Bug Eco Test” that came back negative. I’m sure that didn’t comfort Mia when she already picked up several bed bugs with a paper towel (which security took from her). Negative test results or not, bed bugs were there.  A search on the web also showed two of my favorite shots from other bed-bug-ridden guests, courtesy of Tripadvisor:

We’re not saying the Cosmopolitan is the only Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on the strip with bed bugs (it just comes up most frequently). The fact is that bed bugs are not just a Vegas Strip problem. In May of this year, KTNV Action News had a story aptly titled “Bed Bugs Invading Las Vegas” which focused on the residences of Central Las Vegas. If you don’t want to take any bed bug souvenirs home with you, KTVN offered some advice “like putting your suitcase in a bathtub when staying in a hotel.”

The only advice we can give is: don’t let the bed bugs bite!

  1. The Cosmo is such a poorly run hotel. If they didn’t have those balconies, they would be out of business by now.

  2. Say it isn’t so! I love the Cosmopolitan. I’ve stayed there at least six times in the last two years, and I haven’t noticed any problems.
