“Hello Kitty” Invades Orleans Arena This Weekend

Those who claim that Vegas isn’t for kids apparently didn’t get the memo…from “Hello Kitty”…on Sanrio stationery. We say this because that mouthless feline multi-media juggernaut from Japan is about to take over the Orleans Arena on West Tropicana Ave. this weekend.

Officially called “Hello Kitty’s Supercute Friendship Festival”, this interactive family event follows in the paw prints…er, footsteps of “Disney On Ice” and “Marvel Universe LIVE!” arena tours. Like those enormously popular events, “Supercute Friendship Festival” brings familiar make-believe characters to life…in extra-large (and super-scary) costumes guaranteed to cause a few leaky diapers.

Expect a Hello Kitty welcome celebration, musical productions, a DJ with the “Supercute Dance Crew” (eat your hearts out, Jabbawockeez), a mini “drive-in movie theater” and a character forest. Creative kids (and adults) can show off their artistic flair with cosplay, an origami workshop and a fashion parade. Naturally there will be photo-ops and plenty of opportunities to purchase Sanrio merchandise.

Each event (Friday evening, Saturday afternoon/evening and Sunday afternoon) runs approximately three hours. Various VIP packages are available for die-hard Kitty fans.  General admission starts at $29 for adults and $19 for children 3-12 (tots 2 and under are free) and can be purchased here. If you’re going, we recommend that you head over to Groupon first, which is offering GA for $22 adult/$14 kid tickets by following this link.

From what we see, all of this sweetness and sugar could cause potential oral health hazards. Unfortunately, the “Supercute Friendship Festival” website doesn’t state whether dentists will be on hand to treat emergencies, so you might want to slip a toothbrush and your favorite fluoride dentifrice into the back pocket…alongside your Hello Kitty autograph book, of course.

Other upcoming events at Orleans Arena include “Coyote Countryfest” with Big & Rich, 2015 World Wrestling Championships, Mr. Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend and “Disney Live: Three Classic Fairy Tails”. See their full schedule here.
