Please Don’t Touch My Dante (Burger)

There’s a saying that one shouldn’t get attached to anything in Vegas. It is sound, and wise advice and as much as any of us try not to get attached, it happens.

I read an article today from Vegas Eater that stopped me in my tracks. I clicked in the quickness when I glanced the headline in my feed as one of my beloved burger places is in danger of new ownership. The rumor is that I Love Burgers aka I <3 Burgers (aka my secret mistress) is about to take on a new owner. Of course, a new owner means new changes. If I may quote a song here:“I’ve been afraid of changin’ cause I’ve built my life around you”.

Ok, maybe I did not build my life around the Dante Burger at I <3 Burgers but I certainly planned my trips around it. I’ll never forget the first time I had the Dante Burger. *harp music and wavy screen as I remember*…

It was my last day of a three-day trip to Vegas (the 2013 version) when I awoke, physically drained. Maybe I didn’t drink as many bottles of water as I should have; maybe it was all the gelato. What I do know is that I didn’t feel like going anywhere, but who stays in their hotel room on the last day of a Vegas trip? It’s unheard of. As I was going through the varied coupon books that I collected during my trip; I found the free Carnevale book I got at the Venetian when I signed up for Grazie. In that very book of deals was a coupon for 20% off at I <3 Burgers. I am not one to turn down a new burger experience. I arrived, was seated, and I looked at the menu when it caught my eye…the Dante Burger. Splendid mouth-watering bliss, the most fun I could have with my mouth (get your mind out of the gutter).

The ingredients: “Ground natural grass fed beef, bleu (blue) cheese, lettuce, tomato, caramelized onion and roasted garlic aioli”. I ordered. It arrived.

The Dante Burger in all it’s bleu cheese glory

Look at it, just…look at it. From the first bite to the last I was in my own happy, tasty world. You know you have delicious food when every bite is just as delicious as the first. That’s craftsmanship! Every time that I’ve come back to Vegas since then, I always plan on the Dante Burger. In fact, it’s the first stop for the wife and I next month. I once told her a couple of years ago that the slogan for I <3 Burgers should be “Love Between the Buns”. She said that seemed inappropriate for food (although she laughed, much).  So today when I read that Sam Marvin was expected to take over I Love Burgers and ‘tweak the menu’, I had a food-worry. So Sam Marvin, if you’re reading this…don’t go changin’ my Dante burger.

  1. That is the burger I’ve been looking for…as a Vegas veteran let me first say good luck and much success with Vegas Bright, and secondly I will be heading to the V in search of this burger on my next trip.
