Sh*t You May Have Missed While Ice Skating at Cosmopolitan

It’s Sh*t You May Have Missed from  November 21st to the 25th.

Hey all, BigAZMarty here hoping all of you had a fantastic Thanksgiving weekend and had a good time with family and friends. Now that I’ve undone my expand-a-pants a little before settling in for some Cyber Monday work, it’s time for the news:

1. Las Vegas is the #1 Vacation Destination in the US for the Thanksgiving Weekend this year according to AAA forecast as reported by LVRJ here.

2. New casino sneak soft opening, Lucky Dragon is open for business. We reported it here; Vital Vegas reported on it here. Yelp already has reviews here. LVRJ has a pretty good gallery in their article here.

3. Reuters is reporting again the US Trustee in charge of overseeing the CEOC bankruptcy is again raising issues in the current agreement read here. The Bankruptcy Judge and the US Trustee are not in agreement so not sure how this plays out past the January vote. At issue is the blanket lawsuit protection Apollo and TPG, as well as parent CZR and CACQ, are getting granted as part of the deal that is normally outside of CEOC bankruptcy business.  I believe this is to possibly appeal it from the US Government level to prevent this from occurring as a precedent for other bankruptcies.

4. The NHL Hockey team to play at the T-Mobile Arena has been named “Vegas Golden Knights” read LV Sun here. Snicker, I wonder what kind of shower they have in the locker room…..could it be Golden? Isn’t that special? Not exactly awe inspiring…and there are plenty of other Gold variants around Las Vegas (Golden Steer, Golden Nugget, Gold Strike, Gold Coast and so on). Makes no sense since Nevada is the Silver State. Oh yeah and you can already bet on them, read EDGE Vegas to Frontdesktip here. Superbook bet is crazy…but hey you like longshots…this would be the way to go (100 – 1 to win Stanley Cup in the first year).

5. Interesting article on the Paris power outage and the fact that the casino has had no negative reports on making good on any of the slot machines or VP machines that lost power with money or winnings still in there. Good for Caesars for doing this right, read LV Sun via Vegas, Inc here.

6. The Binion’s Ranch in Pahrump has been sold for $1M read LVRJ here; supposedly the rumor is there is over that amount buried on the site somewhere…but 138 acres is a lot to search. More details on the mystery money on LV Sun here.

7. LVRJ has reported that the old Revolver nightclub at Santa Fe Station has now opened back up…as the new Bingo facility, read here. See you can close a “nightclub” and put in something that attracts gamblers!!!! I’ve seen these targeted fun Bingo games (loosely based off of the bowling redo’s of the 2000’s and old blacklight discos in style) in the Phoenix area. They do draw a different crowd so good for Red Rock Resorts on remembering their roots and modernizing it to pull in a younger more social crowd.

8. Eater Vegas here is reporting a $3.1M remake of Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast, and hidden in the bottom is that Gold Coast will be remodeling a select number of rooms starting January 22. Figuring Ping Pang Pong has been open since 2001 it’s bound to need a refreshing, so a full gut and redo is probably a good thing. I’m still hoping they work on the casino’s smoke/air handlers as the last time I was there (the mid-2000’s) it was rather overbearing with the smoke smell and why I’ve not been back there in a while.

9. Eater Vegas is also reporting that the Loser’s Bar at MGM Grand will be opening Dec. 1, read here.

Losers Most Wanted

10. Eater Vegas has a decent gallery inside the Papaya King at Harmon Square, read and view here. Just in time for our Editor-In-Chief’s visit to Las Vegas.

11. Mystic Falls has a newly lit tree and new laser light show at Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway. One of the last “free” things to do in Las Vegas. Read here. If I remember there should be a shuttle to get there from Harrah’s, Fremont and the California and back read here. You might need a room key, however, not sure but it is in the PDF.

12. Interesting, the Hard Rock Cafe outside of the Hard Rock Casino will be closing, the owners of the hotel own the land but do not own or run the Cafe. That will leave only the one on the strip. I am betting the Hard Rock Casino has plans for that land already. Read LVRJ here.

13. Robin Leach reports Corey Feldman is off the market after a Vegas marriage to his Canadian fiance, read here.

14. Hooters Casino is closing the “Country Superstars” show, read Vital Vegas here.

15. Gaughan buys more land around South Point. Read LVRJ here. Sounds like a good business plan, there is a ton of empty land down there between South Point and M Resort. South Point is fairly busy, but probably not as busy as his old cash cow from the Strip, Barbary Coast (which is now The Cromwell).

16. Ice Skating Rinks are opening up on the strip for the holidays, and Cosmopolitan’s is open per LVRJ read here. The Park’s is open also, read here. No word on if Caesars or The Linq will have them this year.

17. Interesting article on VegaSeven from Anthony Curtis for the hopefully single guy looking for some extra action on his Monday Night Football views (good luck there). Read here and for ladies not sure you’d be interested in any of this; I am just reporting it. I think the spiciest my single days MNF viewing ever got was when the local bar would bring in Lite, Budweiser or Corona girls and serve long necks out of a big iced tub at a premium. As for food at a Strip Club…EWWWWW…what’s this short hair? Urk…Hurl.

18. This has probably already passed the time from being active but still needs to be reported; Las Vegas-based Zappos is partnering with local Animal Shelters for “free” adoptions for homeless pets. Read VegaSeven here. Pawlidayz is an awesome concept, and my family is on our 2nd rescued dog (1st was a White German Shepard, 2nd and current is an Alaskan Malamute). Let’s hope they do this again next couple of years as our 2nd is getting up there in age and my wife will have dog withdrawal symptoms soon, and so will everyone in the house for that matter. But they lived a long and happy life which is what mattered right?

19. VegasUnzipped has Black Friday (passed by the time you read this) and Cyber Monday deals linked all in one place here. The Palms free upgrade to a Premium Room in the Ivory Tower is pretty nice but the Ivory Suite I’d pick and pay for myself. Look at this on oyster and see what I mean. Both the rooms are towards the bottom there. The Ivory Suite is just that much better especially if there are two of you going (half bath on the bar/living room side for guys, bedroom side for ladies except for the shower). I think I found the inspiration for the Delano rooms if you know what I mean, just MGM / Delano changed it to all white.

That’s it for last week’s news, now four our stuff with Chief Editor Michael Movestro…
