10 Reasons Why the SLS Las Vegas is Likable

Matty Ice Shares 10 reasons why he likes SLS Las Vegas…

The SLS Las Vegas will always have a place in my heart. I know. It’s the SLS. It gets panned outside of Bazaar Meats as “too far away, no reason to go.” It’s definitely not the Venetian, but it’s also not Circus Circus.

While the strip certainly ends at the Wynn for some people, the SLS is worth the trip for a few reasons:

1. Hotel comps are hard to come by, well they weren’t always. For a good chunk in 2015, I got three free nights per month for about six months running. Now I get deeply discounted rates. The SLS had my first completely comped room in Vegas, which will always have a special place in my heart.

2. SLS’s foodie scene is quite impressive. Bazaar Meats is the crown jewel, but Cleo, Katsuya, and 800 Degrees are all great as well. At the time of writing, there are plans to add some more budget friendly options as well.

3. The dealers and pit bosses are some of the best in Las Vegas, period. These guys and gals know customer service and always have a customer first mindset. When the casino is slow, they’ve actually lowered table limits on craps for me because they didn’t want me to have to go off property for a $5 craps game. They also have some decent blackjack rules.

4. The free cocktails are in actual glasses. Like real adult sized glasses, the liquor pours are definitely a full 1.5oz shots worth as well (cough, MGM, cough).

5. The beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve been in anywhere. It’s like sleeping on the wings of baby angels.

6. Monkey Bar is pretty neat; the outside patio is great for pre-gaming a night out.

7. So is Center Bar. Where else has a 3D screen that you can sit under?

8. FoxTail is one of the cheaper clubs on the strip. Tables go for as low as $500 a night depending on who is DJ’ing.

9. Monorail access takes you anywhere on the strip. This really helps connect SLS to the rest of the strip and gives easy access to places like the Linq promenade, MGM Grand, as well as the Westgate if you’re trying to catch a game at the super book!

10. You still have a little old Vegas charm from the bones of the Sahara. Yeah, the rooms are a little small, but you’re staying in a piece of Vegas history. Look around; you might be able to see a few nods to the Sahara in the casino floor decor.

  1. You missed one of the best things about the SLS…..The Foundry is a great concert venue (just wish they’d book more acts there that a 40+ demo could enjoy).

    1. Thanks for the heads up, I actually haven’t been in that space since it was LiFE club (which died). They have the space to make something great in there although I agree with PaperPoster. . . They just can not hit their target audience.

  2. sorry hate the foundry and it wont for over 40 there still trying to sell the bottle service niteclub experince in there also over 40 perfer seats and that place wont with seats. the pearl and chealse blow the foundry away.. its been a disaster from day one. sam really fucked the place up.

    1. I’ve heard rumblings that Umami burger is set to close and be rebranded but I haven’t seen official word on it. My experience there was meh. Food didn’t do it for me. If you’re set on staying at SLS to catch a game this is your best bet, I would just take the monorail down a stop and get into Westgate!

  3. Wow, good sales job on the SLS, MattyIce! Makes me want to consider it for an “affordable luxury” option. That center bar video was amazing!

  4. Thanks for the kind words! I’ve really enjoyed staying there 3 separate occasions. If you sign up for “The Code” players club online they usually will email out discounted hotel offers even if you haven’t been before

  5. Fun article! My wife and I stayed there several times when it was the Sahara. Even though it’s the SLS now, like you said, the bones of the Sahara are still there and we definitely want to try to stay there. I have been there a couple of times with some friends just to play and meander and had a good time. At least they didn’t take it down like they did the Riviera.

  6. I went once two trips ago to check it out. I was in the casino at around 10 AM and I was THE ONLY PERSON there. Literally. For about 10 minutes I was it. It was kind of weird but the tables were cheap and service was good. It is a very cool vibe and I hope it does well.

  7. I love the SLS….I have not had the pleasure of staying there yet but i love the food offerings and small intimate casino ! The floor in the hallway near the pool entrance is really cool. Ive taken some great selfies laying on that floor !

  8. Based on this article I may have to re-think staying there. We visited a few months after they opened and I really liked the casino! Walked in planning to drop a 20.00 in their slots and leave, but we ended up staying over an hour and I walked out with that same 20.00. The only thing I didn’t like was the location, but with the monorail being at the hotel, I don’t see a problem. Will be visiting for sure in 2 weeks.

  9. England Loves the SLS to visit as its the last stop on the monorail and is very beautiful inside, went for the first time last year and will be back in September for sure. Miss the Sahara as stayed there twice but the SLS is a cool replacement. We love it. Ed
