Living in the Fast lane at Fast Lap Indoor Kart Racing

Sailordude puts you in the driver’s seat at Fast Lap Indoor Kart Racing…

Do you sometimes find yourself looking for something new to do when you feel like you’ve been there and done that around Vegas? How about catching a couple of Cheap Lappers during the day? I’m not referring to a stop at Larry Flint’s Hustler Club, although that’s always a good option, no I’m talking about visiting Fast Lap Las Vegas.

Fast Lap is an indoor Go-Kart facility that is located about three blocks west of the strip. The actual address is 4288 Polaris Ave, and it has cost me anywhere from $10 to $20 for a cab ride, depending on what Strip Hotel I’m leaving from, and how many U-Turns the cabby throws in for good measure.

When you arrive at Fast Lap, you will be welcomed by their front desk staff, who I have found to be very friendly and informative. You select the number of races you wish to purchase, sign the waiver, and are lead into the locker room to watch a quick safety video and to suit up for the race. All racing gear is provided, but you can bring your own if you have it. There are some specific safety items that you must wear: helmet, neck brace, closed-toed shoes, socks, head sock, gloves, and if you’re really keen you can dress up in a race ‘onesy’. If you’re borrowing a helmet and shoes, you’ll need to buy a $3 head sock, and a pair of $3 feet socks. There are coin operated lockers to put your stuff in, and if you want to capture the race on video you can rent a GoPro but I brought my own (the helmets have GoPro mounts).

The track is about a ¼ mile long and 20 feet wide, so there are plenty of opportunities for close racing and room to pass. The 200cc Karts can go up to 50 mph, so these ain’t your kiddy karts! The Karts are all pretty much the same, but depending on the day some Karts are faster than others. The staff at Fast Lap understands that “rubbing is racing” and as long as you’re not intentionally trying to put your buddy into the wall, they typically let things go. In fact, it’s the staff at Fast Lap that makes the trip exceed expectations. They’re a fun group, and they keep the energy up. They really want to see the customers have fun and will offer tips if asked.

If you’re in a larger group of 6 or more, Fast Lap offers group packages where just you and your group will race, PLUS the winner of the championship race will receive a trophy. These group packages also include free head socks and shuttle services to/from a strip location. I should note when we registered for a group package the shuttle service wasn’t running so Fast Lap just knocked $8 off the $65 per person “Daytona” package. They really are good people!

Your food and drink options at Fast Lap are pretty limited, but they didn’t seem to have a problem with us bringing our own drinks with us. They also didn’t seem to have a problem with us taking a break in-between our group races to watch some other races. I wasn’t watching the clock, but we were probably there for an hour to complete our practice race, the time trial, and then the championship race. The staff took our pictures on the winner’s podium, and the Championship Trophy is proudly displayed in my TV room!

After you’re done your racing, the Fast Lap staff will call you a cab, or if you’re up for it, you can walk over to the Rio or the Palms which aren’t too far. A good way to extend this little off-strip adventure!

So take the trip to Fast Lap. It’s a good way to spend an afternoon!

  1. Awesome write-up, and I can’t agree more about the staff. I went here with four other guys over NASCAR weekend and the staff, from the front desk to the track attendants were beyond expectations and very nice. Not to mention, a staff member got into a car and took us to the shed, and he was the one that laid the bumper to me the hardest, which was AWESOME!!!! Love this place, 10/10
