Another Charity Pop-Up Show Comes To The Strip
If you caught my previous articles on pop-up shows, you know how fun they can be. For the uninitiated, pop-up shows are insider events, unique one-off performances (in most cases) that frequently benefit charities. I recently learned of another one coming very soon, and this one promises to be another don’t-miss.
It’s called Drop The Mic, a lip-synch competition featuring Las Vegas stars. It’ll be held inside The Sayer’s Club at SLS Las Vegas on Tuesday the 17th.
There are many reasons why you might want to attend this star-studded event. First of all, it’s a benefit for an animal charity. That’s reason enough for yours truly to support it…and attend. Noah’s Animal House is a sanctuary for the pets of battered women who are receiving support at The Shade Tree.
This safe house for victims of domestic violence goes one step further, by allowing victims to stay united with their pets during a time of crisis and healing. Noah’s Animal House prevents the need for those seeking safety to leave their pets behind, where they can become victims of retaliation from vengeful partners. Fantastic stuff here.
Secondly, it’s being hosted by Mike Hammer, the Four Queens magician with lightning-fast wit. Hammer is fast becoming the go-to host for pop-up shows like these. Having seen his Downtown act more than a dozen times (lots more, actually), I’d probably follow this guy to any venue. Or maybe just seek some psychiatric counseling for my troubles…
Then comes the line-up of talent. We’ve got VegasChatter two-time winner of “Favorite Vegas Celebrity”, Jeff Civillico. He’ll be setting aside his juggling balls (maybe) for some solo lip action. Jeff’s good looks will have some serious competition from one of the rippling studs from Chippendales. Breakout star James Leigh Davis, who showed us his best “Mad Max” recently with an epic music video for his single “Revealed”, will be bringing plenty of “sexy” for the guys.
Jennifer Romas and the ladies of SEXXY at Westgate Resort will be representing the women’s side in the Battle of the Hotties. While it’s unlikely that the SEXXY gals will get bare during their spots, James Davis usually does….so who knows where this competition might lead? Be ready for just about anything. After all, it’s for charity, folks…
Eric Jordan Young who dazzled audiences with his spot-on Sammy David Jr. in VEGAS! The Show has been shaking things up recently at Venetian‘s Rock Of Ages. He’ll be grabbing a mic to face off with illusionists Jan Rouven and Murray Sawchuck (yes, really). And longtime Vegas crooner Frankie Scinta. Jersey Boys‘ Franki Valli himself, Graham Fenton, along with his wife Nicole Kaplan of Wynn’s SHOWSTOPPERS will be putting on their best lip-synch fakery.
The panel of judges for Drop The Mic is as star-studded as the entertainers themselves. Robin Leach, Anthony Cools, actor/singer Adrian Zmed (from Grease 2, T.J. Hooker and Bachelor Party), Pia Zadora and Absinthe‘s Melody Sweets will be ranking the performances. Several rounds will culminate in the awarding of the first “Drop The Mic” trophy.
The competition will play second-fiddle to hamminess and entertainment value, so expect lots of upstaging, silliness and laughs. Zowie Bowie‘s Chris Phillips will be spinning the tunes as he debuts his alter ego “DJ ZB”. The show is being produced by Andy Walmsley, an Emmy-award winning production designer for such shows as Terry Fator, Human Nature, Divas Las Vegas, Jeff Civillico and Nathan Burton.
Drop The Mic will have a warm-up party at 10:30 pm before the main show at 11:30. It’ll be followed by an after-party that goes on until 2 am. Admission is free, and it’s first-come-first-serve, but bring some bucks for donations. For more details, visit the Facebook Event Page. Audience members must be 21 and over.
