Hard Rock: Bad Blackjack, New Look for Center Bar

As Hard Rock’s “New Center Bar” was taking shape, we reported on its progress here and there. Our tipster/informant @paperposter paid it a visit recently and was delighted with the new look.

One thing he wasn’t pleased with; the complete changeover to 6:5 blackjack on the casino floor. As recently as Wednesday, Pape (not to be confused with the Pope) discovered some unwanted changes to Hard Rock’s blackjack gaming tables.

The Hard Rock as of 2 weeks ago (a week after the center bar reopened) changed all thier regular blackjack games to 6/5 with hits on soft 17. This is bad blackjack. That means single deck, double deck and 6 deck on the casino floor all pay 6:5. Also they dont tell you when you sit down that you’re playing at a 6:5 table. It’s not printed on the felt. All they have is a little scroll digital sign in the corner that displays it. The high limit is still 3:2 on 6 deck and double deck, but double deck hits on soft 17. (Hits on Soft 17 gives the house an extra 0.2% edge).

In case you sit down at one of the ‘bad blackjack’ tables, you’ll want to look for something like this:

Just a heads up!

  1. Thanks for the heads up on the blackjack change to 6:5. Was thinking about going to Hard Rock on my upcoming trip to play and now I won’t waste my time.

  2. Well I guess I can add the HR to the list of places I don’t gamble anymore.

Unless it says it on the table, I always ask before I sit down if the table is 3:2 or 6:5. You’d be surprised the number of dealers who say, we’re, er um, “regular” blackjack.

  3. Thanks for the warning Michael! Are there any places with low limits you would recommend that are still 3:2? First they ban Ben Affleck and now real gamblers won’t go there due to this rule! :-)

    1. What would you define as low limit? I haven’t been to Vegas in a few months, but during the middle of the week and during the day, there were routinely $15 and the rare $10 tables at some of the Caesars properties, such as Planet Hollywood, Paris, and Flamingo.

One just has to make sure they aren’t sitting at the PH Pleasure Pit, or any other similar type of setup, as those are usually all 6:5. Other tables were still 3:2 at that time.
