The Flamingo GO Rooms Revisited

It had been a couple of years since I stayed at the Flamingo; I read horrible things about it being in decline. I wondered if it was all that bad. For me, anytime I had gone on my solo trips to Las Vegas, I usually stayed at the Flamingo. It’s like a comfy pair of jeans.

As my wife and I were planning our honeymoon, I had suggested the Flamingo for the location and the price. Had we had more money to spend, I would have suggested the Venetian as it is much more romantic. I love the Venetian, but back to the Flamingo. What I like most about the Flamingo is its location. The proximity to the LINQ, Harrah’s, Casino Royale, Venetian, Mirage, The Cromwell, Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, Bally’s and Paris. The Flamingo is near the center of it all, or maybe it just seems that way to me. As this was our first Vegas trip together, I wanted to be in a location that felt close to everything, with its own monorail station. That said, the Flamingo fit the bill.

I knew off the bat that we’d stay in a GO Room. Previously I had stayed in both GO Rooms and FAB Rooms, and I knew that for our honeymoon, there was no way in Bugsy’s Bar that we were going to stay in a FAB room. The Fab rooms are your basic, standard room. The lighting is very dim. The floors of the FAB rooms lack carpeting, instead, offering floors that are a dark vinyl faux wood (not FoxWoods). The bathrooms do not bring thoughts of “new” or “remodeled” at all.

I had stayed in a GO room a couple of times before; I knew that it would suit us perfectly. Especially being our honeymoon, it was worth the extra bucks. The GO Rooms are modern, carpeted, with a nice sound system and a big TV, has an empty mini-fridge, a coffee maker and switches that control your curtains/sheers. The bathrooms have a TV in the mirror (my favorite thing), speakers in the ceiling, with a dual jetted shower and a European bowl sink. Regardless of the room type, one thing is certain to me; the beds are comfy. Now for the views. Both the FAB Rooms and the GO Rooms have a range of views to choose from. The Deluxe rooms give you a view of another Flamingo tower. The Highroller View rooms give you a view of the Highroller. The Strip View rooms give you a view of…the strip. Now that you have a brief overview of rooms and views let’s get on to our GO Room.

Some time back I had read about bad carpets, broken VP machines at Bugsy’s Bar, dirty, bumpy carpets in the halls and slow or out-of-service elevators. You know what I found? New carpet in the casino, new VP machines at Bugsy’s Bar, new clean carpets in the halls. The elevators with hardly any wait at all (although I can only vouch for the lobby elevators). I’m happy to say that my Vegas comfy jeans, the “Flaming O” still has lots of life left in it.

One more thing…

…when the Vegas strip is your night-light… Life. Is. Good :)

  1. Hmmm. Good to know. I was going to stay at the Linq my next visit, but now you have me rethinking that…

  2. Just be sure it’s a GO room, the difference between Fab Rooms and GO rooms are night and day. The LINQ is really tempting also, the rooms probably still have that “newly renovated” smell.
