Hard Rock: Bad Blackjack Hits High Limits Room, Update on New Center Bar

As if the move to 6:5 blackjack over the years wasn’t bad enough, it doesn’t stop there. Now there’s a newer vexation for you blackjack enthusiasts: Hit on Soft 17’s, even in High Limit rooms.

Our tipster @paperposter clued us in on the nitty gritty now underway at the Hard Rock. He writes (paraphrased) “The best bj rules are dealer stops at all 17. The high limit rules should always be like that. NYNY switched around a few months ago to both double deck, and six deck hit all 17. This rule is bad for players. Now I was just at the Hard Rock, and they just switched the high limit room double deck to hit all 17’s. The six-deck still stops at all 17’s at least for now. I’m sure the six-deck change will be next as there double deck on the Hard Rock already pays 6/5 on the main casino floor.”

While this new rule doesn’t appear on their felts, yet, it does appear as a scrolling sign on the tables. Pape snapped this pic of an off-duty table, so you’ll know what to look for:

What does this mean?  It means one day, a few decades from now; you’ll have the “Vegas Talk” with a young 20-something family member. You’ll tell them how you remember when Blackjack was 3:2 and the dealer stopped at 17.

Them: “What’s Blackjack, is it a club?”

You: “No, I played Blackjack.”

Them: “As a DJ? How many clubs did you play?!”

You: “No, Blackjack..ok so..the dealer…”

Them: “How do I find a dealer at a club without being obvious?”

You’ll down a Centrum Silver, mumble some expletives and walk away. Oh wait, similar conversations happen today.

An update on the space formerly occupied by Center Bar. @paperposter informed us “they raised the whole floor, so it’s now all one level.”

We’re sure there isn’t a Jabbawockee in this image, we think.

With casino gaming revenue on the decline and blackjack’s downward trajectory, one can only wonder what the future holds as everything changes in Vegas.
